CPU heatsink issues

Hi, I just bought a new computer where I salvaged the part from my old ( CPU, Harddrive etc...) and when I started the computer the Heatsink went at very high speed and I shut the system off immediately.
The day after I bought some thermal paste and applied it to the CPU - still the fan speed won't go down.

Any help is appreciated.

Only need to post in one thread - people will see it.

Is the fan 3-pin or 4-pin? Is your setup capable of reducing the fan's speed automatically? What is the RPM showing in BIOS?

The CPU fan is a 4-pin, I can't connect to the BIOS ( I have connected my VGA to my computer screen but nothing is showing up )
 
Can you say more about the machine, original post states you got a new computer then something about salvaging parts from an old machine, have you put old parts into a new computer ?
 
You may have a bad connection somewhere. Can you verify everything is seated properly on the MoBo?

And what exactly do you have computer-wise? You mentioned buying a new one, then using parts from your old one? Did you check to make sure everything is compatible?
 
All parts

All the parts of my rig are:

Intel i7 processor ( Taken from old Computer )
Motherboard: Acer DIB75L ( Taken from old computer )
Power supply: 600 W Corsair
Case: CM force 500
Graphics card: Gigabyte GTX 660
HDD: Barracuda 2TB ( Taken from old computer )
and an optical drive
 
there is also supposed to be a 4-pin connector ( a square shape ) connector that goes into the motherboard from the PSU but the PSU doesn't have that. The CPU 4-pin connector is connected properly.

The psu does not have the 4 pin atx connection ?

Check you power cables, there should be a 24 pin connection from psu to board, a 4 pin atx connection from psu to board, a 4 or 6 pin connection from psu to your graphics card, then all the connections for your drives.
 
there is a 24 pin connector from the psu to the motherboard yes, and a 4-pin connector on there.Should I take off the 4 pin connector from the 24-pin connector and put it in the 4-pin holes? ( on my old psu there was a seperate 4-pin cable for that, that is why i'm a bit confused
 
No do not take it off !

The 24 pin connector usually comes as 20 pin with extra 4 pin if needed, there should be another seperate 4 pin atx connector.
 
here is what is left after i take away the 24 pin:

2x PCI-E 6 pin cables that have wires connected to a 2-pin cable.

1x CPU 8 pin connector ( don't know what this is for to be honest )

2x SATA cables with 3 SATA connections each( gives a total of 6 SATA connectors )

1x Cable with 4 4-pin molex connectors aswell as a small 4-pin connector ( that looks like the CPU Female connector
 
Yes it did thank you! My computer is now up and runnig and i'm just waiting for the windows updates to complete :)
I'll reply to this post if I run into any more issues along the way
