CPU is HOT HOT HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My i5-2500 that i dropped into an Intel DH67BL is reaching 75-77 degrees Celsius on each core. I experience the over heating during gaming because I get FPS drops and freezing. Even apps are slow to load and sometimes crash. I'd like to leave the CPU fan automatic and raise the rpm of one of the case fans instead. Two of the case fans are right next to the CPU. One plugs into psu so cant be changed but the other goes into the mobo. Its either 120 or 140mm so should be able to get the job done. What software is good for adjusting mobo fan speeds? Dont mention SpeedFan (incompatible with my board). Thanks in advance.

Do you think it could possibly be dust problem?

That temp is still way under max. FPS drops and freezes, stuttering can be sign of a dying hard drive.

Okay I reseated the cpu fan and now the temp hovers around 60. The hard drive is perfectly fine. Gonna test some games and see what happens, I'll post results.

Yeah I was going to say it mustn't be seated right. I've only ever seen my i7 which run hotter than the i5's at 65*c maximum and they were the days I had the intel stock heat sink fan. Nowadays with the Megahalem the most i've seen it hit is 50*c.

Apparently both of the games are known to have issues with quad cores (which ive solved). Thanks anyways for the reply.

How did you solve the problem? I have a really old video game (Gauntlet 2) that I run with an emulator. It doesn't run well with my Quad-Core system, but it runs fine with my single core system.

Try setting the game exe to only use core #0? I have to do that for games like star wars kotor otherwise they crash or minimise and don't come back up.

You just have to play around with the emulator settings. It depends on what emulator and what version. For certain ones you might not be able to get stable game play with quad cores and will have to wait for future releases. I got SSBM to play fast and smooth on Dolphin (gamecube) emulator by tweaking the settings. For older games you probably want to only use one core for the game as someone else mentioned.
