CPU issue? Music stutters

I was wondering what might cause music to stutter...?

Is it a CPU issue?

I have a P4 2.4 400 fsb
1 gig pc 133 ram

It started happening more recently and never did before when running on a P4 1.4 400 fsb??

Is something bottlenecking my system??
 
If it stutters it's a software problem, if it stops or starts and stops from different points with no stutter it's a hardware problem. Check the drivers and see if they are A. The newest, and B. Installed correctly.

P.S. Little more specs on the sound of the system would be good.

It more or less sounds like a skip, or a stutter, maybe a "pop" once in awhile that is not reflected on any of my CD burning. It's an annoyance for sure. Almost like my computer has a lag or something and it interupts the music. Kinda like "Max Headroom" or whatever his name was...if you remember that???

Currently I use iTunes as my default player. I don't really like it - having used Musicmatch, but I had conflicts with iTunes and iPod. I may look into a new patch and go back to Musicmatch.

I do scan for spyware and adware weekly.
 
Have you tried re-installing the drivers for the sound card/integrated sound? Also, try using Winamp and see if that makes any difference (prolly shouldn't).
 
I did install the drivers for the card. I recently added a 5.1 pci card and disabled the onboard sound. I should prob try disabling the PCI and enabling the onboard to see if that makes a difference.
 
Yes, try that first and see what happens. If the sound comes back fine then it may be a problem with the way you installed the drivers for the 5.1 card.
 
I disabled the PCI card and enabled onboard sound. It still happens. It seems like a "glitch" or "hesitation".

Any other suggestions? Is there something running in the background that may cause a bottleneck.

My specs are as follows:
P4 2.4 ghz w/ 400fsb
Intel 845 WN mobo
1 gig p133 ram
2 60 gb HD RAID
1 8 gb HD (never use)
fx 5200 128 mb video card
Mad Dog Multimedia Predator 5.1 audio card
Antec Smartpower 400W PSU
Lite-On dvdR
