Hi!
I am planning to upgrade my cpu and my motherboard but i am a little confused with the all amd vs intel stuff.
What is the best cpu + Motherboard you could get for around $300?
It will be for gaming and one of those games is guildwars 2 and that game demands alot of cpu.
With regards, potatonano.

CPU: Intel Core i5 2320
-Socket 1155 LGA
- 4 Corees

It is a pretty old cpu (around 4 years)

Ram: 10 gb ddr3 ram

Graphic card: Amd radeon hd 7950

That is still a very good CPU. I think you should upgrade your graphics card (video card) and memory and leave the CPU and motherboard. What power supply do you have?

For $300 you could get a GTX 960 and 16 GB of RAM.

I'm using a 500W PSU

Depending on the manufacturer, it might be enough. A 600 watt PSU would probably serve you better. Minimum requirement for a GTX 960 is 400 watts. Plus your CPU uses 95 watts under heavy load. Anyways, if you want to boost power for gaming, a better graphics card and a 16 GB RAM kit in dual channel mode would do the trick.

Your Intel Core i5 2320 has 4 cores at 3.GHz each, 6 MB cache and 32 nm. Again, It's still a good CPU.

He has a HD 7950. I don't really think a GTX 960 would be that much of a upgrade in performance. Not worth the money spent.

Oops...I was thinking of the 7700 series. After having a closer look at the HD 7950, your right.

For the OP...here is a comparison between The Core i5 2320 socket 1155 and a Core i5 4590S socket 1150.

If it was my system, the only thing I would upgrade would be the RAM. But, if after all what was said you still want to spend the $300 on a CPU and motherboard upgrade, I would stay with Intel CPUs. I'm not sure how much of a performance boost you will find for $300 though, I suspect it will be minimum at best.
