CPU on laptops questions

Hello,

I have a two year old Toshiba Sattelite A-60. I paid $800 for it, so it was definely an entry level priced laptop when I bought it.

It has an Intel Celeron 2.53 Ghz. (That is the original proccesor. I have upgraded the memory and hard drive, though.)

When I look at current laptops, it seems that most of them have 1.60 to 1.80 Ghz proccessors. It seems like you have to pay alot of money to get a laptop with anything near a 2.53 Ghz. Why is that? Am I missing something?

you have INTEL CELErON which is slower than the other processors(1.60ghz,1.80ghz and so forth) the other processor are Pentum4, pentium M, dual core.....etc. they are much faster although they have less ghz's.
 
There is more to the processor speed and "power" than the GHz rating. This is why you can see a 1.8GHz processor out-perform another 2.6GHz processor. You are also probably looking at 64-bit processors in newer notebooks, and your Celeron is only 32-bit. Other "upgrades" could also be dual core processors in the newer notebooks.
