well im new on the forum, and i have a decent emachines comp that i had for a while, well i have a 2.17GHz, and some how it went down to 1.30ghz, my jumpers are fine, and i even try resetting my bios and nothing still, i dont know why it did that and maby you guys can help me out on that, just incase if u guys wonder i have a T3025 emachines, 768mb of ram 160/200GB of HDD, 5500 nvidia graphics card, stock PSU, mother board should be a AU31.

Check bios settings to make sure the Multiplier is at 13 and the Bus Speed (may also be listed as FSB) is at 333mhz and no lower. But seeing as you've already tried resetting the bios these settings should already be there. Does the bios display your processor running at 2.17 or at 1.3? Have you tried any Overclocking software?

thanks for the reply, yea in the bios setting i do see the FSB setting i have 0.50% and 1.00%, when it loads up it keeps telling me i have 1300 and then i have clockgen for the over clocking does not let me do it, when i had the 2.17 i used to do it all the time, now for the jumpers for the bios, switching them over is the same as taking the battery off?

Go to the 'Power' tab and see if there is anything that promotes conserving energy. If it's newer (not sure how new) most computers bought from eMachines, Dell, etc, have power saving features defaulted , ex. they downclock when not in use to conserve energy.

hmm this is weird,i cant see anything thats making it downclock.

what happens when you press F5 to Reload defaults and then press F10 to save?
does windows then show the full speed?

ok ok i got it, the APIC i disable it, now it went back to 2.17 with 166mhz, but when i try to load XP it freezes, i show you, this is the first time that happens, but when i go back to 1.30 it loads up fine.
