CPU reaching Max on Meter

Hello, Lately I've been streaming with Plex Media Server

My CPU Meter shows it hitting the max. My question is what could I do to help prevent this. My system is an eMachine - System Model ET1330/ET1331


Processor AMD Athlon(tm) II X2 250u Processor, 1600 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 2 Logical Processor(s)

Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 4.00 GB

Total Physical Memory 3.75 GB

Available Physical Memory 2.17 GB

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I would believe that I would need a better CPU or something to replace what I currently have.

It's normal that that cpu maxes his 2 cores, it will need it because he only runs on 1,6ghz.
I would say go for a cheap new mobo and an i3.

I always have thought about getting an i3 and a new mobo doesn't sound bad.

I have another question.. if I continue to hit the max more longer will my CPU damage in any way? if I were to go with a mobo and i3 (it would be at the start of the new year where funds would be available) this is why I ask

no. You can run 100% usage indefinitely and it will not cause any issue at all. That is as long as your temps are under control, which in an OEM machine they should be as long as you have made no modifications to it.

as long as it's not overheating it will be fine, and those processors run so cool i doubt it could overheat unless the heatsink was completely removed.

You'll want to contact microsoft prior to changing mobos, the current copy of windows on the computer is locked to the motherboard and won't work with a new one so you will need a new key, if you tell microsoft the old mobo died or something they should give you a new key for the "replacement" motherboard.

interesting. So these PSU that come with these machines are just about enough to cool the CPU when it's using it's max. Nice... The Meter currently shows 10% being used now lol.. it hits it's max and then goes down when I am away from the computer
