CPU slowdowns at 50C.

I got my new 6000+ x2, but I am getting frequent slowdowns just a minute or two into a game. I checked the temperature using speedfan and checking the bios. Using speedfan it seems that everytime it reached 50C the game slows down. The little icon shows a little fireball like I am burning up my cpu, but from what I have read amd dual cores can reach 65C safely.
Is there a way to stop this from happening? I looked in the bios to find the temperature limit but no luck.

EDIT
I downloaded a program called pcprobeII and it says my threshold is 65C. What is going on here?!

Ok, it got to the point where nothing was functional, that processor is busted. I put my old one in and everything is fine again. I am returning it.

When the processor become non-functional, would it no longer boot? From the sound of it, it sounds like it was overheating and underclocking to protect itself. 65*C is not a "safe" temperature. While they may be able to sustain it for short times, it's not a temperature that a CPU should be running at.

I believe in the result of speedfan. Because i used this program very long time ago. Sometimes, The temperature of my laptop reach 50C, not usual

No I did some research, 65C is the shutdown temp for the athlon x2 processors, and while gaming hitting 55C is perfectly normal and safe. My cpu idles at 39C/40C, I use a thermaltake v1 heatsink with ocz thermal paste, and yes it makes good contact, centered, and I applied ocz thermal paste (better than arctic silver) just as the instructions said how to, the fan also spins at the right rpm, up to 2000 rpm for the thermaltake v1 heatsink.
So no, it did not overheat, it was a bad cpu. I talked to tigerdirect, I am returning it for a new one.

Well, that is hot, for having an aftermarket cooler, and paste, i agree w/ you on that one, that cpu must have been defective, cause with my 5200+ clocked at 3.0ghz, w/ stock paste and fan, after running prime95 for an hour, its max is 61c...

You should activate the coolin quiet function, in BIOS, it is great, when gaming for over an hour, it doesn't go higher than 44c...

I have this processor in my PC and the temperature is 47c-50c in ordinary work and in games is so 60C . Your temperatures are good .
