CPU speed

I have a socket AM2 mobo with an AMD 64 3800+ processor. When i right click on my computer it reads it as running at 2.01 and i think it should be running at 2.4. I am also running windows xp professional 64 bit edition. Can anybody shed some light on why its only picking it up running at 2.01Ghz

Is it a dual-core processor? If so, it's MEANT to run at 2GHz

thealmightone is right, you might have the Athlon 64 X2 3800+, which is clocked at 2GHz.

no its not a dual core.

Run a CPU intensive program like SuperPi and it should go up to 2.4GHz. It runs at 2GHz when it isn't doing anything that requires all 2400MHz of its power, so it slows down to save electricity and produce less heat.
