I removed all the bits in my dell precision to clean the huge amounts of dust in them. I took out the cpu fan and washed it under water, then dried it and put it infront of the hairdryer till it was totally dry. Put it all back together and no problem except for the CPU fan started spinning at very high rpms when the pc was turned on, then slowed down to a stop. Finally, the pc shut itself down due to a 'thermal event' aka cpu overheat. Now I am using it with the case open and was racing to type this before it shut down again, but the cpu fan suddenly kicked in and is now spinning at a normal rate.
Could it be a slight residue of damp that was intefereing with it, but since that has now disappated it is back to working order?
