okay, sry for the many post ive been putting up but; the rest of my stuff finally came in yesterday...so decided to assembly it and get it working.

problem is, or IF it is one, my cpu temp is too high...IDLE temp Im gettin is 53-57 then when I play Source, it goes up to 64-67.

is it suppoe to be that high or did i messed up on something?

cpu is the I7 920 btw. ; using the cooler that came with it for now.

also used the antec mx-2 thermal paste...and yes, i did take out the stock paste off the cooler before I used the antec.

anyone kno why its like that?

Feel free to correct me.. but isn't it because the i7's run hot anyways?

Since the i7's now have the memory controller on the CPU so it runs hotter than the normal quads.

Also, I think the stock cooler is shit.. Get an aftermarket cooler would be the best way to go.. Something big and beefy but make sure it fits in your case!

Sorry if i'm wrong because I've only done alittle bit of reseach. =]

Forgive me? =D

Thats about the correct temperatures for the i7's stock cooler afaik, only thing i can say is try getting rid of the fan speed changing by turning off smartfan in bios, run fan @ 100% and your temps may drop a couple c. Best investment would be a cpu cooler though such as the xigmatek dark knight, very good cpu cooler on a budget.

Well I just built my second i7 920.This one has the stock cooler for now but at idle I get 39c and load is 45c-49c on stock. So you might need to think about checking to make sure you did not put to much thermal past on.Make sure you have good air flow in your case, make sure the cables are not blocing air flow.
My first build I only used the stock cooler for a week, and dont rember the temps. It now has a v8 on it and is at 3.8 and temps are only 43c-48c on load.I all so tried out some off brand thermal past, but will be chaning it to mx-2 soon.

Yeah take this advice but I am pretty sure that that line of comps were made to run hotter than others. Not sure exactly though

What case do you have and how many fans?

Idle temps seem a bit high, even for the stock cooler. Should run high 40's.

How did you apply the thermal paste exactly?
