CPU Temperature Question

This may be a not so smart question but here goes. Up until a couple of weeks ago my computer has been running fine and now the thing locks up frequently. I have replaced a few things to no avail so I was wondering if my cpu being way too hot would cause the lockups. Intel states the highest temp. should not exceed 43c under extremem conditions but the cpu stays around 66-70c. Would I just need to install another heatsink and thermal paste or is there any other suggestions.

i would install heatsink thermal paste and some more fans and that should do the trick
post back the results

With themal paste I decreased the temperature about 5-7°C and I opend the case. Before the temperature was about 60°C, now it doesn't go above 50°C after 5 hours playing.

what cpu do you have? are you sure it's 43C? My old intel celeron D has the max temp of around 70C before shutting down.

43C? thats realy low. my comp stays at around 47-54 c, sometimes reaches 60 c when im doing some big stuff. before i cleaned out the dust from my cpu fan it would be around 65-70 c always and still run fine.

I am running an Intel 1.9ghz Pentium 4. I could have sworn the specs. on the Intel site stated 43c max. but I will check again. Thanks for your help.

it was the motherboard that was doing the shutting down

that is high, at that temp your cpu stands a good chance of getting damaged

where does it say that. No cpu has such a low max temp

But more importaantly, what cpu is it, what socket, and what cooling do you have

my computer runs at about 60C when multi-tasking and i have had no problems, i have 4 fans, and a heatsink. I am multi-tasking a lot and i have had no problems yet.

43c seems to low for a max temp. i know AMD Athlon 64s say not to go above 95c and thats just crazy. i run an athlon 64 3000+ that has a stock hsf and runs 51c under load and 41c at idle.
