CPU upgrade, please help

HI all,

I have this Gateway 508GE desktop computer, I wonder if I can just buy a better cpu to extend the life of this computer a little longer.

I have this computer

I would like to buy any of these as long as it can work with the system.The bios is lock so I can't change any cpu setting at all. but the multiplier is 17x, so may be it still can work? please help

I would love to get the quad core cpu if it can work with the system.

I wouldn't put any more money into this machine as its old and only has a 915 chipset in it and is running the old ddr memory. Make do with what you got and save money for an updated system.
 
I understand, but the question remain, can any of these cpu work with this system? expecially this Intel® Pentium® D Processor 945
(4M Cache, 3.40 GHz, 800 MHz FSB) ? it almost have the same specifications just have 2 cores and the processor die is larger, can it fit in the socket?
this processor sold on geeks.com for only 41.99. if it make a different I would try to get that. Thank you.
