CPU upgrade worries

Hey there, my sisters comp was buil;t back in 2001 and as you can imagine it sucks now. I was checking it out with CPU-z etc..... turns out she has 512Mb running at PC2100 (133Mhz) thats pitiful. Anyway, i was thinking that could get replaced with some nice 1Gb PC2700 (max the board supports).

On to the actual question, CPU, its an AMD Athlon XP 2200+ to my reckoning this runs at 1.8Ghz does it not??? Well whatever it runs at its not very fast. So i want to upgrade that too, my worry is that of Windows XP, i know if you change mobos it wont boot and you have to do a repair install thingy, what happens if you keep the same board but upgrade CPU's, does that require a repair installation or not????

Any help would be great, thanks, dragon2309 :D

Upgrading CPU does not require a repair install, but just do software housekeeping instead of upgrading the proc since cellie 433s can run XP really well.

we formatted it about 3 weeks ago, its just documents and normal stuff on there, its prob not that slow, but in comparison to everything else these days it is. Thanks for your answers, is it a 100% chance of not needing a repair install or is it like a chance it might need it or what?

i would say %100 percent...

i got Windows XP and i had 450MHz P3 Processor w/ 100MHz FSB and 192MB RAM PC133 and it was slow so i got 866MHz P3 Processor w/ 133MHz FSB and 512MB RAM (PC133) (256x2) all the max my board supported and it just gave me a note when my PC started up that there were some changes then it proceeded to start up like normal.
