CPU upgrade

Hi everyone,

I'm set on upgrading my CPU, since many of you would find my current one not only outdated but even offensive. So I set my eyes on Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz and am thinking about what MB to go with. My aim is gaming but I'm a RPG fan so nothing extremely demanding.

Since I'm on a pretty tight budget I'm looking for something cheap. I know it has to be 1,333MHz compatible but I need some extra room for overclocking (on a stock cooler) and at least up to 4GB RAM support for future upgrades.

Everest tells me my memory thing is DDR2 so I guess I won't have to buy that.

Here are my current specs:

AMD Athlon 64 3500+ 2.2GHz
Abit K9 motherboard with Nvidia Nforce4 chipset
2x 512MB Kingston DDR2
NVIDIA GeForce 7600GT

I'm not sure whether changing the motherboard involves any other kind of expenses, but pretty much any input will be much appreciated!

Dont OC on a stock cooler, imo. My mobo was cheap and works great, ive had no problems with it at all.

I'm kinda tempted to get Quad but at the moment dual core is much more popular with applications and games so I'll be getting more performance for my cash in the short term. In the long term, I can always upgrade as long as I have a LGA 775-compatible mootherboard, which is what I'm looking for.

As for overclocking, I'm not into messing with hardware but if a game forces me to do it then I'm definitely not increasing the voltage. I guess I can still squeeze out another ~0.2Ghz without running any risks...right?

Haha, I like that about your CPU being offensive :P. Well, I have the 4000+. Either way. OCing on stock is not THAT bad, I was able to OC from a stock 2.1 to 2.3, so there is not much of a performance upgrade. But My PC crashed at tat, because not enough voltage, which im not gonna mess with. So either way, you can't OC MUCH with stock cooler.
