CPU upgrade

Wooot, so now ima upgrade my computer, it seems to be the best time right now to get some am2+ quads/tri they are pretty darn cheap.

85 bucks for a 8750 be!! Niice

so heres my options which one should i go for?

9650quad 110$
8750betri 85$
9750quad 105$

Im thinking of going for the 9750 becuase it is pretty cheap, its oem so ill have to get an after marketcooler, but what do you guys think?

I've had all three and I liked the 8750BE. Still have it, kinda of a keeper. Overclocks alot better then the other two. It would run at 3.0 with just 1.350V. Could not get the 96/9750 to overclock hardly at all. The 9750 95W is ok.
 
The 9750 125W was at its max pretty much at stock speeds. The 9650 would hit about the same, both around 2.6/2.7ghz. The 8750, plus being unlocked just overclocked alot better. Most of them unless you just get a bum chip would do 3.0 easy. Used to run mine at 3.0 at 1.350 and 3.2 with 1.4V.

The CPU support for your board supports only one Phenom II, the 715. Never even heard of it. Just kinda weird, why it would support that one and none of the X2. lol. It supports all of the Phenom I, but the 9950.

Yea I say go with the 8750 I run my 8650 at 2.7 on stock volts I could probably get it up to 3.0 if a tried.
 
Yah i know, i got all excited when i saw am3 haha but then i was like wtf!! that doesnt even exist..

If your going with that id like to see what other components your also getting i.e. Mobo, Ram etc etc :)
 
You will not notice this upgrade with the rest of your setup, total waste of a hundred bucks on a CPU that is already outdated and does not support ddr3 or socket AM3 so there's no future proofing going on there.
Get a new board, and get a 550 or 720be and then you'll notice it. Your board you have is poop, no offence, but the Phenom I cpu's are no longer any kind of value when you can get a Phenom II for a couple bucks more. Unfortunately you need a new board to support a Phenom II, but better to buy a board and CPU for $200 than spend $100 on an upgrade you won't notice and won't even last 6 months.

I'm also curious why you think $85 for any Phenom I is cheap especially only a tri core when a Phenom II 550 is $100 or the 720 is $120 and both of them would DESTROY the 8750 in any and ALL benchmarks and real life situations. Hell, I just picked up a used 705e Phenom II tricore for $64 shipped that would laugh at an 8750.

I know the Phenom II processors are much better than the first generation Phenom series. In the end I went with the Phenom 9550 because I couldn't find a Phenom II that would work with my motherboard that was 95 Watt. I don't like paying the power bill and I didn't want to deal with a 125 Watt processor so I got a used 95 Watt Phenom 9550 Quad-Core processor for $70.

This chip can multi task like crazy compared to my old Athlon 4600+ Dual-Core processor. I don't notice much difference in speed with how most programs load which is disappointing though.

Yep you compare the 720 to the 8750, uhh duh, it will oviously be better, but you know, i dont feel like spending 250+ for a brand new set bro.

IMO futureproof, stupid... For me, i dont buy a top of the line system and wait 4 years for it to get outdated, no one does if you love you pc...
You upgrade it over time...So futureproof meh, load of BS...
Only time i would "future proof" is i was some lazy @ss dude with a pocket full of cash and wanted to get the best rig at the time, and never upgrade the computer...

You mention that i wont see any difference upgrading from my 5200+ to this tri-core, thats wierd, cause when i looked on tomshardware the 8750 got quite a bit more than the 5200+ in games in fps, was a hella lot better in video encoding, and a better overclocker being it is a BE.

Basing it on the fact that you won't even notice this ''upgrade'' and 6 months later you will be buying a new motherboard and CPU anyway.

$250+? You don't even have to spend $200. And who said this was top of the line stuff? If you want top of the line you'll need to spend about $400 on a CPU and motherboard. It's not top of the line, just way better than what you are going to waste your money on.

Well that depends. Do you have the Windsor core 5200+ or the brisbane? Any benchmark you looked up probably used the brisbane. If you have the windsor core, which has 2x1mb of L2 cache than I'm 100% sure you won't notice a difference. If you have the brisbane, which is 2x512kb, you may notice a very slight difference, after you overclock it and only with certain applications, but certainly not worth a hundred bucks at all.

A Phenom II is the same price as the Phenom I's you are looking at, so no I still don't think it's cheap at all.

Edit-One other thing about your benchmark results. When they tested I'm sure they weren't using an inferior motherboard. Your board does not have hyper transport 3.0, therefore it will not run at the full 1800mhz the Phenom's designed for. The 5200+ is natively 1000mhz hyper transport, your motherboard will underclock the Phenom's hyper transport to 1000mhz. This will limit your overclocking, along with general processing power. Now I reallly know you won't notice this upgrade!

Here you go, get the Propus 620 quad core, it absolutely creams the 8750 and it's $99 at newegg. Check these benchmarks-

The 620 beat the 8750 in 28 out of 31 benchmarks, and the ones it lost were very close. Most of the time the 620 whooped the 8750.


Of course, you'll still need a new motherboard!
