CPU upgrade

I have the following motherboard and currently have an E6400 installed on it which is I think quite weak for today's games. Would like an upgrade. Can you suggest a good but not extremely expensive one, maybe from a site that ships to europe?

Which game do you play , normally the cpu is not the weak point in system , ram and harddisk may be the bottle neck
 
You need a new motherboard. The best CPU your board supports is the E6700, not a worth while upgrade.

Why don't you overclock what you have? It's not a bad CPU, just needs some more clock speed.

If you aren't an overclocker, well you just need a CPU with more clock speed.

Here's a motherboard, and CPU that would be a noticeable upgrade (plus the motherboard can support quad if you want) for fairly cheap. You really need a new board.

I am playing NFS Shift. I don't exactly see bad performance however I have the settings on medium and I cannot have other progs running. I have two hard drives, one IDE and one SATA 2, maybe game will be faster if I transfer it on the SATA 2 hard drive?

When I did the benchmarking test with 3d mark it was showing only 1fps when it was testing CPU and that's why I was thinking that this is what needs upgrading.

About overclocking, well I would like to try it however I think I have to change the cooler, or not???
 
You can overclock some on stock voltage. It's really once you start increasing voltage that you need an aftermarket cooler (in MOST cases, monitor your temps to be sure).

Download Prime95, it's a stress tester for the CPU. After you overclock some, watch your CPU temps (typically using utilities from your motherboard but you can download HWmonitor if you don't have software) for about an hour while stress testing with prime95.
My guess is you should be atleast able to get 2.6ghz on stock voltage, just a guess though. Make sure to remember that when you overclock your CPU you are also overclocking you ram. So set your ram to most likely the next lower setting. Like right now your ram is pc5300 so thats 667mhz (or 333 since it's DDR), the next lower setting is 533mhz (266 DDR) and as your overclock your FSB the memory will overclock as well.
