CPU Upgrade

slow stuff

New Member
HI Everyone,
I have a GA-8I865 GME-775-RH motherboard with a Celeron D processor. I really want my computer to go heaps faster and was after some advice on which processor is the fastest for it and what it needs to run it.
Any advice?

Hi,

It depends on how much you want to spend.

What are the full specs of your system and why do you want it to be faster?
EDIT-John beat me to it :)

Hi
Thanks for the reply.
Now, it has a celeron d 331 sl8h7 2.66 ghz/256/533/04a processor.
It has 2x1gb kingston kvr400x64c3a/1g pc3200 cl3 185-pin dimm ddr ram.
It has a geforce 6200 512mb ddr2 agp 8x graphics card.
I use it for games, internet and downloading "stuff". And I want it to go faster beacuse it NEEDS to??
I hope this info helps
Mark

Definately need to change the processor as your celeron is only a single core and is terribly slow. What operating system do you have? What type of games do you play? The 6200 is a very low end video card and won't be able to handle any demanding games.

Also, you said that you download "stuff". If that refers to music, movies, etc.. illegally then that will get you infected and slow your system down.

Sorry to be the bringer of bad news, but that motherboard is incompatible with a lot of the newer CPUs:

Also, that list is for the rev 6.6 board. Your board might be an older revision, which you can check for by looking around on your board for the revision number. ;)

Keep in mind that the CPU might not be your problem anyways. Check out the CF guide for how to speed up your PC:

Your right, I just double checked gigabytes website on cpu support, but according to them there are only revisions of that board 1.x and 2.0. So not sure how that other website is getting 6.6

Yeah, it confused me a bit also. Usually you don't do 6 revisions of a motherboard.
