CPU Usage Monitoring

Hi there,

Does anyone know how i can go about creating a program to monitor the CPU usage of PCs that are running on dual core processors. For example, whenever one of the core usage hits a 100% (eg. for 3-5 mins), an alert will be shown.

What are some of the APIs or stuff that I can look into?

And by the way, are there softwares out there that monitors the cpu usage and when it hits 100%, an alert will be sent to the user? (or an email will be sent)

Would appreciate if you guys can give me some ideas and feedback :)

I like CoreTemp - b/c of the display that shows the temp and usage of each core pretty clearly compared to a few other applications I tried out. It's a freebie download. I"m not sure about sounding an alarm of any sort though.

Some have recommended speedfan and a couple other apps I can't think of.
