How can i lower my cpu usage?? and is avast a good antivirus with minimal cpu usage..?? Thank you .. i just got my computer up and running after 7 months of buying parts ... i just want maximum quality ..
 
same here, not much programs running ( firefox, foobar, aim, steam and msn ) took about 461mb of memory usage <-- i guess ( that PF thing on task manager ) haha
 
i dont think you have to worry about CPU usage unless thier is a virus or spyware in the background. becuase of course in idle it chould be at 1-3% and then of course when you run programs it will higher it depending on what program. like if it is a game then of course it will be high.
 
I use Avast and like it a lot, personally. When doing a full system scan, though, it will use up to 100% of CPU cycles, especially on large video or .exe files. Also, it's caught more viruses in two months than Norton's did for me in five years.

umm... yea thats probably a thread more for cpus and overclocking section of the forum.. but to answer your question i dont know much about avast, and i would worry more about memory usage than i would about cpu usage... also try posting your specs in your signature... that would help us know what type of cpu you have.
