im using
AMD Athlon 3800+ X2 CPU
eVGA 6800GS nVidia PCI-e video card
1024 Dual Channel 2x 512 RAM
Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit
ASUS A8N-E Mobo

even with this rig i'm getting like 40 fps on CS 1.6 which is really dissapointing.. any ideas on why this is happening? also my mic doesn't seem to work with this new rig... not sure why, i installed the drivers and i recieve sound, the people on the otherside just can't hear me talk.

what are the specs on your power supply?

well.. it's an Aspire 520w PSU.. i dont think that's what is causing the problems.. but ill put in the one that came with the case tomorrow just to check it out i guess..

it's molex connected, but i know that i plugged it in cuz i was getting an error msg about that today, i plugged it in and now it's gone

Just change ur game settings. Eg I play call of duty 2 and the average gamer on that only gets 60 fps but if u run it on directx7 u get 200 fps. Just change ur game settings.

CS 1.6 is a very old game, you should get 40FPS on a P3 1Ghz with a MX4000 card. Run 3DMark03 (www.futuremark.com), and tell us what the score is. That way we can see if its a CS problem or a hardware problem.

Hmm

So the problem is solved? That's possible because without the power supply, the card is donclocked and performs much worse than it should.

JAN :D

problem isn't solved.. i tested my card on 3dmark03.. it gave me a score of 11000 so it's not a hardware problem.. it's CS.. all my other games work fine.. it's just steam

Im sure he does, he gets a really good score in 3DMark03, and all his other games play fine.
