crash

Driver version for sound most likely. The typical memory dump is being seen there. In fact the information on the screen itself is recommending disabling the offending driver. The BSODs had their day on the Vista installation here lately trying to get the beta drivers and EAX effects working with a Creative model sound card. When trying the simulate EAX effects in Media Center... BSOD! Even with XP you will see this with the incorrect version or video and sound software problems.

Now you have to look at what version you have on for sound and video to see if you have the correct ones installed. Are you running anything onboard like sound or stricly using expansion cards? If you are gaming with onboard sound or video that can see problems since it pulls down on system resouces. The incorrect or corrupted drivers can also be loading into system reserved memory addresses seeing crashes there too.

my sound is on board the video card is not I dont game at the moment but will again soon and the drivers for the sound are the ones that came for xp so an update maybe in order
thanks for the help

What make and model board are you running there? you can usually grab a newer set of drivers right at the board manufacturer's support site. You will have to go for the video card's updates at the ATI or NVidia site usually for those. There you still have to go through the series/model/OS selector to make sure you get the correct ones.

I got an msi k9n diamond board I updated the drivers and it still occurs my video card is a 7300gt by pny I'm thinking maybe its something there

it's vista sound drivers >_>...happens to everyone, but go check your vendor's site because most companies released a new update/patch driver late February

febuary um will they even have one ready, next year? there are soooooooo many problems.

I had to run over to NVidia's download site for Vista updates here since Asus still doesn't have any seen. Their support site has been so busy lately from everybody going for updates it takes several tries to get to the download pages. The updates for sound on MSI models is found at http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/driver/dvr/spt_dvr_list.php?part=1&kind=3&CHIP=3&ID=5 You simply have to select the correct set for the audio chipset on your board there.

"Lazyness" seems to some it up all too well. Even after the last five weeks since Vista's release the exact same beta drivers are seen that came out last fall for the RC1 versions! (whistle a high tone and wait forever. dum dee DUM DUM... ) :P
