Crashes due to OpenGL driver?

After gaming for a little bit, 5 mins, especially BF2 + CoD2, The game freezes, and I get the windows error message with the "dont send" "send" error report. It says it was caused by the ATi OpenGL driver. I've got an AGP X850XTPE, fairly new, and has been stably overclocked before, but not lately. I don't think the OC was the problem causer, becuase it wasn't OCed for about a month, and this problem started this week. Also, some of the crashes just freeze, go to desktop, and restart. Sometimes I get an ATi GPU Recover message saying it reset the card or whatever. The exact windows error was "Unkown problem caused by ATi OpenGL Driver"

Called ATi, they had nothing usefull to say expect what I already knew, and newegg is saying they're not gonna take the card back, so if anyone knows anything about how to get a stand alone opengl driver or something, could use it, thx.

Why won't newegg take it back? I've returned things with them before and if i tell them it's broken they immediately take it back no questions. You must have given them a pretty "user-error" type explanation if they said no.

Try different drivers.

Becuase they believe it was the overclock that ruined it, but I'm sure it wasn't. Anyway, I have Media Center XP, and have been using that driver, should I try and go with a regular XP driver?

Well sometimes the older drivers are more stable, or sometimes hardware jsut doesn't agree. I've heard of people having to "skip" certain driver releases and go from say v1 to v3 because v2 just does not work with there hardware. It may be this way with you...or it might be defective harddware. Try different drivers out and see...hopefully it's not hardware issues.

am I gonn abe able to run directx 9.0c stably tho? like, CoD2 or BF2 with old driver? Could I use driver from original CD?

Well when I say old I jsut mean the last release before the one you are using. It's not necessarily from like 1989 or anything lmao. I know ATi comes out with new drivers almsot every month it's crazy...the last 4-5 versions were all DX9.0c based, and they all worked fine with it. I fiddled around with all of them to see which worked best, but with a 9200 like mine you can hardly tell the difference so I jsut use the latest one.

alright, thanks. I'll just try old ones, and I'm just thinkiing that I haven't tried using "control panel" instead of "catalyst".
