Crashing Issues

I recently built my friend a computer for his brother for a Christmas present (lucky kid got a $1,600 machine! :D ) and he has had some issues with crashes during programs

Whenever he plays a game, it tends to freeze and accompany an annoying crash of the program. Whenever he plays HL2 and other games it just freezes and either crashes or jumps to the blue screen (dun-dun-dunnnnnnnnnnnn)

What do you think the problem is? He has an ATi Radeon x850 Pro so it's not like he has a budget card! What do you guys think is the problem? I was thinking along the lines of a motherboard issue. He is running an NZXT Nemesis Elite stock PSU, so maybe a power problem? That PSU runs at 400W on it has 20A on the 12V rail.

So what do you guys think it is? I'm thinking either a motherboard issue or weak PSU.

I would definatley put money on the PSU most of the time when a psu comes with the case and it is under 500W it "Generally is crap" so i would put my money there.
P.S. how much ram are you running in the system?

It wasn't my decision. His parents didn't want to spend money on additional things. I have 2GB of RAM in there. He picked out the RAM. CAS latencies are running at 3-3-3-8.

However, lately it says that it is only running in single channel even though it is 2 sticks of 1GB.

Hmmmmmmmmm...

*bump*

Really need ya'lls help on this because he (my friend's father) really isn't too happy with me. Everything installed smooth! I didn't have any problems with it at all until he took it for about a day or 2.

I'm thinking about installing a new mobo because I think this might be a mobo issue. Even though the RAM is running in single channel it's still a gig of RAM which is plenty to run most applications.

I suspect a bad stick of RAM, that can cause BSoDs and since now only one stick works its very suspicious. Try running memtest86+ (boot version). Run at least a couple of loops of it, especialy test #5. Also, try running each stick individualy to see if it works. You might need to RMA one or more sticks of RAM. What model RAM is it? What error code is displayed on the BSoD?
