create a bootable backup of hard drive - windows 7

Hi,

the hard drive on my laptop is on its way out as although its not making any of the nasty whirling noises, it is running very slow and sort of dragging its feet when it comes to booting and shutting down.

I have a new hard drive and have no problems is swapping the drive however can I ask if there is a way of creating a bootable copy of the hard drive so that I can load the complete contents back onto the new drive ?

Cheers

Scott

If the drive is failing, I wouldn't be cloning the drive to a new one. If you clone it to the new one, you may transfer the same issues over to the new drive. A fresh install may be worth it also if its been quite some time since the OS was installed.

You can clone the data from one hard drive to another, yes. As far as it being bootable, I haven't of such things.

I will advice, though, that if your hard drive is starting to fail, you would be a lot better off by re-installing Windows. A dying hard drive can damage your current install, and what's the point in a bad OS on a new drive

If HDD is dying, that does not mean OS is dying lol.Just clone old HDD to new HDD and everything will be just fine.
I recommend DriveClone Pro.It is a great one. ;)

Or if you want a FREE way,you can do that with Linux Ubuntu.

Cheers!

If a drive is dying, you may end up with read/write errors. So in this case, a fresh install is always recommended.

That is why everyone should have their HDD cloned on some other external HDD and never use that external HDD unless it has to be used to clone everything back to a new HDD in the computer :D
And if I ever buy a new computer (lol) then I will simply clone everything from my external HDD (on which I have my clone) on that new computer without the need to reinstall anything.I am not crazy to reinstall SO MUCH software and reconfigure SO MANY settings in everything lol :D
I guess that explains why I did not reinstall anything since 2004. :D Until 2004. I was using Windows 98 xD

Unforcenately people start to think on this once they hear CLICK-CLICK-CLICK xD xD xD But then it's too late lol.

As for read/write errors,he can always recheck EACH byte after he has cloned his old HDD to the new HDD to be sure that everything is just perfect :P

Unless you buy back the same computer or you will have drivers issue plus license issue if it is OEM windows.:D:(
I do miss the old DOS and Windows 98 days. NO activation.

-Driver issues: Install new drivers for the new hardware (if neccessary). In his case all he changed was the HDD so NO new drivers here will be neccesary...

-License issues: Cheat Windows license lol. That's easy.Still even this won't be neccessary for him since he changed ONLY HDD hardware...

-Problem solved ;)
