Creating a Gaming Computer/Questions

Topic 1

I am thinking of building a computer along with my fellow friend, dannyjjang, who posted about something similar. I am not much of a computer expert but I am asking what parts to buy if my budget is around $600 dollars. I am a gamer and I want a computer that can play WoW, BF2, Fear smoothly and with great quality. I also am not looking for someting too expensive, but something around my budget. If you can help me out and provide me with great gaming computer parts (from newegg links) I would really appreciate it. I also was wondering if building a computer might be difficult.

Topic 2

My old computer specs:

Intel Pentium 4 2.4Ghz
1GB RAM DDR
ATI Radeon 9600XT 128MB DDR (OC'd)
120GB of HD Space

Those are my old computer specs, I would also want some response regarding on how to upgrade or overclocking my current system as well.

Hopefully I'll get response regarding my 2 questions. Thank you!

http://computerforum.com/showthread.php?t=37635 that's the best place to start looking in order to get an idea of what you can get with a certain budget, you can change things a little bit, but it's a good guideline. I'd look to spend a little more though, you could go X2 easier if you did. As far as building a computer, I'd say find a friend who has built one before and the two of you walk through it, I has someone help me on my first build and have built a couple more myself since then. Once you've seen it done, it's not very difficult.

Building a computer isn't that difficult, provided you have some experience working with the hardware. As suprasteve has said, getting a friend to help you with your first build is a good idea. Also keep the Buidling Computers 101 guide with you.

As for overclocking your current system, take a look at Overclocking 101

Well I am going to the computer fair tomorrow, I may purchase a new video card.. What good graphic card ranges around $200 or something that may be cheaper in a computer fair.

Computer fairs may have some good deals, but may not. Try for a 7600GT around $170, or a 6800GS @ $150, or maybe even a X850XT for $150

Are you serious? For that cheap? Just to make sure they're not refurbished rite? Also I am going to the LA Computer Fair in Pomona (http://lacomputerfair.com/). But anyways, I never knew things would be that cheap, even cheapter than NewEgg?!

For which computer? If it's the one in 'Topic 2', you'll almost certainly need an AGP graphics card, which are more expensive. Video Card 101 has some good ideas, but personally I wouldn't put $200 into a new video card for that machine.

These are about the prices for PCI-E cards. The 6800GS and X850XT used to sell for around $150, but the prices seem to have jumped to about $170 in the recent weeks (from newegg). You may be able to find them cheaper at a computer fair.

For a PCI-E card at this price range, the 7600GT would be your best choice.
