Crock O'Crap Router Speeds

So I wanted to see about boosting my wifi speeds and range in my house, as one side to the other was sometimes sketchy.

Grabbed a Linksys E4200 and set it up and, of course I know the claimed speed is complete horse-s*** but I was hoping for a bit better speed.

Range issue is better, but the speed on one laptop is 65mbps, another right beside it is 144.4mbps, samsung smartphone is 58mbps, and no matter where I am in the house these 3 different devices all maintain the different speeds.

Also, I can no longer login to the router, like I could after setup, and twice now, my modem has lost my IP address, forcing a reset.

This router claims 450Mbps, which is obviously manufacturers bulls***, but I was thinking it would be better than what it is, and more consistant amongst devices.

I've disabled the wifi from my router/modem combo, and only have my Desktop on 1.0gbps,..

Any thoughts or ideas..

Should I just return this hunk of crap?

What internet speed are you actually getting from your provider? Speed varies from network connection to the next, usually hardware or driver related.

My package is 100M right now, I was on a higher package but it wasn't worth the money for me.

I'm just kinda surprised that 2 ASus laptops, both less than 1 year old are getting 65mbps with latest drivers..etc

An Acer netbook is getting 144.4mbps

Smartphones range from 39-58mbps

The range stability is better though from office to other end of house, which is nice...Also, I cannot login to the router at all!! just wont open??

Do a speedtest and post the results. www.speedtest.net

When the router won't let you login to it, you need to reboot it and it usually works. Sorry for not putting that in my last reply.

I actually did reboot and wasted a bunch more time with it. I decided to scrap it and get a DLink-DIR-857 Media Router, its all setup now but the wifi speeds are the same. Range is sik though, in my basement its stays full power!!

Here is my speedtest, though.

Must be nice to get that speed. I only get 1/4 of that. I could get 105mb if I wanted to pay $200 a month for it. Don't think soo...

Yah, its crazy the huge spread in prices from isp to isp, and what they charge for some 'high-end' services.

I guess this new router has helped get extra juice cause I didnt remember being this high--except when I was on a higher package that I was still only getting 60-75 for.

I suppose 95.95 for a claimed 100M service is pretty accurate?

I still dont understand what the dual band, 2.4/5ghz does for me though,

If every wireless device is N compatible then you can select N only. If however, you have devices that are only G then you need to have both enabled.

Ok, I tried 'N Only' but then it said something about not being compatible with TKIP..?

All my devices are 'N capable'
