Crossfire Problem

Here's the situation: I have an Asus Maximus Extreme motherboard and 2 Radeon HD 3870 Diamond MM video cards in crossfire mode. My computer has been working for the last 2 months. A couple of days ago I reinstalled windows vista, and experienced the following problems:

I am no longer able to hook up my computer in crossfire mode. At first, the driver wouldn't install properly. When I finally installed the proper driver, I couldn't enable crossfire mode. I started testing my hardware.

Both of my video cards work perfectly. When I connect either video card (alone) to the main PCI x 16 slot, each one works perfectly at 1920 x 1200 resolution. However, when I connect either video card to the second PCI x 16 slot, the monitor works but only at 1600 x 1200 resolution. The proper driver CANNOT be loaded.

Is my motherboard broken? I am thinking there is a problem with the second PCI x 16 slot, and that's why I can't enable crossfire mode.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

Well if it only stopped working after a re-install of Windows, than it's probably not a hardware issue, although that can't be ruled out. Try uninstalling the drivers, and installing them again. Make sure you download them from the manufacturers website.
