Crossfire Problems

I have two ATI Cards a Radeon 5830 and a 5876. I read online on ATI's website that you can use two different cards but when I try to play prototype it goes to a black screen with both cards installed in crossfire Bioshock worked for a few levels and then it froze. To trouble shoot i've uninstalled and reinstalled all graphics drivers and ATI Catalyst and then reinstalled them still no luck. Then I reformatted my computer reinstalled Windows 7 Ult. 64 and ATI catalyst and the display drivers... Still Nothing..... So today i took out the 5830 and I was able to get my graphics running. So my question is if they are are both 5800 series are they compatable or do I actually need to get a second 5876. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

do you mean 5870?

they should be compatible. did you install the crossfire profiles? try doing that and running the games again (the profiles are installed in addition to the drivers).

I may be wrong, but I believe that when a more powerful card is paired with a less powerful card in crossfire that the end result is the same as having two of the less powerful cards crossfired. As your 5870 outperforms two 5830s in crossfire, (at least at the higher resolutions), I doubt that you have much to gain pairing those two cards.
