CRT problems

Hey, I'm new and I have a question about a old Packard Bell CRT monitor. When I turn it on grey and black boxes show up, either the grey boxes make up a large square on the outside and the black squares make a smaller square in the middle or visa versa. This happens whether connected to the tower or not.

Can anyone tell me what is wrong and if I can fix it. Thanks.

thanks for replying, but they don't look like menus. I will post pics of the screen and also the plug has one prong that is broken off, if that matters. But like I said before the boxes are there with or without being connected to a computer.

Certainly is an old monitor, you weren't exagerating one bit :). I just think one of the boards must be bad, short from resetting everything to defaults I'm not sure what to tell you other than its bad..

well thanks anyway. It was in storage and I just wanted to know if it was salvageable, I guess not. But thanks for the help.

I swear i've seen that before when we had CRT monitors. I remember it being kinda normal and happening a lot. I'm sure you've checked for loose connections and stuff though so I don't know :/
