Crysis tweaks

Now that I have a new cooler for my card, I've finally been getting into playing Crysis Wars. I looked up a couple of tweaks from about 3 different websites. Before I would play at Gamer settings, 0xAA at 1680x1050 and I would get 40 fps. After these tweaks, I'm running 2xAA at 1680x1050 with all of the features from the Enthusiast settings at the same frame rates. Just thought I'd share some, they are great.

CD/DVD: Create an autoexec.cfg file and place it in C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis Wars\Game

Steam: Create a system.cfg file and place it in C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\crysis wars

These are just the settings that I have, some are visual and some are performance tweaks:

con_restricted=0 (Allows ingame console)
r_TexturesStreaming=0 (Disables streaming of textures, textures are loaded with the map)
r_UsePOM=0 (Increases 3D ground textures)
r_sunshafts=1 (Enables "God rays" from Enthusiast setting)
r_UseEdgeAA=1 (Blurs edges for more realistic trees)
d3d9_TripleBuffering=1 (Prevents fps drop from V-sync)
e_hw_occlusion_culling_objects=1 (Only renders objects in view)
e_hw_occlusion_culling_water=1 (Only renders water in view)
r_ColorGrading=0 (Removes color grading settings)
r_Coronas=1 (Enables visual "crowns" around light sources)
r_Flares=1 (Enables lens flare)
r_Glow=1 (Enables general glow of bright areas)

Let me know how well these work. I'm finding myself playing just too look at the "God rays" and texture details lol.

Wow, that is soo helpful. You are the most helpful person I have ever seen. This will change my life.

P.S. Performance doesn't really matter if all you do is drive cars in the middle of nowhere on empty servers..

I've been messing around with the tweaks some more and came up with a better list. Shadows have one of the greatest impacts to performance, so I've been experimenting with shadow tweaks. This is my current config.

con_restricted=0
sys_budget_videomem=512
r_TexturesStreaming=0
e_precache_level=1
e_shadows=1 (force enables shadows)
e_gsm_lods_num=3 (only renders shadows in a perimeter, lowering number will decrease shadows and increase performance)
sys_flash_edgeaa=1 (applies AA to the HUD)
r_UseEdgeAA=2
q_renderer=3 (uses texture settings from Enthusiast settings)
e_particles=1 (force enables particles)
e_particles_lod=0.3 (decreases level of detail of particles)
r_UseSoftParticles=0 (less crisp particles, more performace)
r_colorgrading=0
r_UsePOM=0
r_sunshafts=1
e_water_ocean_fft=0 (lowers ocean effects)
r_vsync=1
es_OnDemandPhysics=1
r_GeomInstancing=1
d3d9_TripleBuffering=1
r_displayinfo=1
e_hw_occlusion_culling_objects=1
e_hw_occlusion_culling_water=1
gpu_particle_physics=1
r_Glow=1
r_Coronas=1
r_Flares=1
r_Reflections=1
r_Refraction=1
r_WaterCaustics=1
r_WaterGodRays=1
e_particles_thread=1

Running 1680x1050, 2xAA, with High settings (tweaks give effects from Enthusiast settings) ~25 fps

Good tweaks, but some of these such as "texture streaming" while letting you see the whole world, will have an effect on performance because of the increased rendering. Also, god rays are somewhat heavy, but look really cool.

While tweaks can help-upgrading will probably help more.-
My 9800 GTX overclocked to 800MHz runs Crysis 1440*900 16AA "cheap" enthusiast ~40 fps.
