These are current stats:

Acer Inc.
AcerSystem
Intel(R) Celeron(R) M
Processor 1.50GHz
1.50GHz, 504MB of RAM.

Any good - or upgrade?

well if you like it, and really dont want 2 buy a new 1 then i would say upgeade that 1, what are you using it 4?

if you want to play games, then i think that you might as well forget about upgrading, and also upgrading can be an expensive option, because your cpu is going to be the thing that will slow you down. but tell us what you want to use the laptop for

Thanks for all your input. And computerhakk for answering the initial question.

I use mainly for web-browsing, music/video playing, college coursework, e.mail, etc etc. (The usual cliche stuff)

do you have 512mb ram and 8mb shared video?

And to answer the above. I don't understand what you were implying. I'm guessing no.

same thing, and i would say that he has at least *mb of Vram, i am guessing he has 16 or 32mb

but all in all, for what you are doing, i do not think that it is worth an upgrade, maybe in a years time, when vista is available commercially then you could consider getting vista with a new laptop

Then you are good. That should handle it sufficiently. If you do feel the need to, in the future to upgrade.. then just upgrade your RAM. I am sure you are running those programs without any problem. If so, then it's probably just need a little tune up.

You will have a good year or so to wait out and scope out Vista. It may not even come out when planned.. plus, it's always good to wait after the first couple releases to let MS get all the bugs working.

Is'nt upgrading the RAM very expensive? (i.e. probably more than purchasing)

I will probably wait until Vista is released. Good things come to those who wait.

You can buy RAM on newegg for much less then you do on websites like Dell or HP.
