Hi all, I've been relatively active on here lately about laptops, CPU's and GPU's, mostly asking what would be right for me. I've decided on a laptop (no guarantees that I'll get it soon, but I will get it before the end of the year). I have chosen a customized HP DV7t-7000. I wanted to make a thread and see how much of an improvement you guys think this laptop will be from my current one, I realize it's a big jump, but it'd still be fun to look at the differences and any info or advice you guys can give me.

Current Laptop:
  • HP G56-129WM
  • Intel Celeron 900, 2.2GHz, 1MB L2 Cache, single core and thread
  • Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500M, 1GB
  • 3GB DDR3 RAM
  • 250GB, 5400rpm SATA HDD
  • SuperMulti Double-Layer DVD/CD Burner
  • 15.6", 1366x768 LED + Integrated Microphone
  • 3 USB 2.0 Ports
  • VGA Port
  • 6 Cell Battery

New Laptop
  • HP DV7t-7000
  • Intel i7-3610QM, 2.3GHz, 3.3GHz w/ Turbo, 6MB Cache, Quad Core, Eight Threads, Intel HD Graphics 4000
  • NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M, 2GB
  • 8GB DDR3 RAM
  • 1TB, 5400rpm SATA HDD
  • Blu-Ray Player + Double/Layer DVD/CD Burner
  • 17.3", 1920x1080 WLED Anti-Glare, 720p HD Webcam + Integrated Microphone
  • 2 USB 2.0 Ports
  • 2 USB 3.0 Ports
  • VGA Port
  • HDMI Port
  • 6 Cell Battery
  • Back-Lit Keyboard

So what do you guys think of this upgrade?

Yeah you need an upgrade, the specifications that you posted are very good, but I look for better brands. HP isn't the best for quality in terms of Multimedia, Gaming laptops. I will suggest get either Asus, MSI, Lenovo, Toshiba you can get the same specs for it. Even Dell is a good choice for performance/service.

I know HP isn't the best. But they're the only brand I've ever owned and I trust them. I've looked through Dell, and the only thing with the same specs is much more expensive. I was looking at an MSI, but I don't know them, so I sort of steered away from that. Anyway, Thanks for your input, I appreciate it.

How much does the DV7t-7000 cost? You can at least try to customize it to 7200 RPM HDD.

I said it's a good choice. HP's laptops are pretty good, I do like Dell's laptops though but they are pricey.

Its at $1,150 with tax and shipping after a few discounts.

That is a very good price for the 3rd Generation chip Laptop. I like the specs for that price. But only thing I will be worried about is HP. But if you feel confident then the specification are excellent.
But, but
This laptop specs, quality are better for 1150 especially the GPU.
