Custom Install for windows 7

Hello there I am a new member and had a question about installing windows 7. I read in a magazine somewhere that if you custom install windows 7 and then change the partitions or drivers it helps with performance. I am not to savy with computers so this might sound dumb and or not make sense. Thanks for nay feedback

I think the info was wrong or could have been said different. Install the disc when option comes on do a full format.
Get all the drivers working. goto update.microsoft.com and read the updates. Take the ones ya need. Hardware related get it. sp updates take it. thats critical or security.
reboot then do again. get updates, reboot and do it again.

do not do a quick format. get er done.
start over.

They could be talking about having an ssd boot drive. But that is just having a faster drive not manipulating windows to make it a lot faster. If not then Tremmor has the right idea.

Probably talk was about Partitioning. You get some advantages to have Windows on a small Partition, and keeping your Data on another, but many not to savy computers users have trouble managing multiple Partitions.

If you don't plan on improving your understanding of Computers, I would just suggest staying with the one partition scheme.

I would just create one primary partition then after the installation it is very easy to create an extended partition with 7. At least with Pro or Ultimate.

The member User0one has it in a nutshell and I completely agree.

Why?

Here's why, making multiple partitions on a single physical hard drive means nothing should the hard drive go pear shaped.

The only route is to obtain an external drive or drives to put your extra stuff on.

I use a partition on the master drive.
Have a 2nd HD on the computer and yes i use a external
for portability and taking with me.
And yes i found it very convenient with a net work for 5 computers
in the house to use as a storage also for critical data.
Oh well. .......

The forum setting for attachments will not allow the screenshot to be viewable at a larger size, however as one can see I do have a partition on the primary drive, this is a Recovery partition only.

thanks for all the feedback! I dont think the extra performance is worth messing up my windows or my computer lol
