i'm here tryin to build my first custom and something's wrong...the mobo led goes green but the front "power on" button isn't turning the computer on...and i'm not gettin anything on the monitor and my cd drive wont open so i can't install the bios...and probably other stuff :(

Having no floppy drive doesnt help the matter but for the CD Drive not to open i should of thought this was down to the power connection.

I am only a student so dont go by just what i have said.

OK

i dont see a power plug from the front panel...there's only one that plugs into the power supply and pwr led, pwr switch, reset sw, hdd led and speaker that goes into the mobo...problem?

memory's in right...the clips closed and i pushed down...gently ofcourse haha

yeah it is

ok, after everything's installed...i need to install the bios right? but the cd drive doesn't work so i can't install that...is that the problem...no bios?

The main issue is that the motherboard doesn't power up. I would double-check all of the connectors.

i got the motherboard to power up..the led lights up and now the power on button works...but that's it...nothing on the moniter, i'm goin to go home tomorrow and grab another cd drive to see if this one's faulty...and hopefully i can get a bios on there and everything falls into place...good idea? or am i just hoping for a let down hahaa

i have the asus k8v se deluxe with amd althon 64 3000+. the heatsink fan wont turn on when i turn the power on. the green led on the motherboard turns on but after turnin on the computer for more then 30sec i'm not getting anythign on the monitor nor beeps/messages. i dont have another video card to try it on, i have a ati 9200se right now, so i can't see if that's the problem. i really need to get this working before i get back to school..anyone?

No beep means bad PSU or mobo. The led on a mobo could be lighted with a bad psu too (if only some of the voltages are missing).
But check if the speaker is correctly connected (to make sure that there's really no POST beeps).

i think it's either the mobo or cpu...i just plugged teh power supply into another mobo and it powered up just fine:(

thanks for bearing with me...just one more question tho....would the mobo light up if it was bad? i dunno how to tell if it's the cpu or the mobo 'that's faulty

Just reset the cmos jumper and if its not onboard video then make sure the videocard is plugged in tight. If Cmos doesn't do it re-seat the processor. and I hope you didn't pay for these parts. cause if your not taking saftey procautions you can zap your board.
Next time I would suggest taking some lessons. Or paying a certified Tech to do it.
Unless your willing to take that chance,.

but thats like doing surgery and your not a doctor .
