D-Link DI-524 Wireless Router+DWL-G122 USB Problem

So I bought a D-Link Wireless G start kit which comes with DI-524 Wireless Router+DWL-G122 USB. It claims that it has a 54.mbps wireless data transfer, however, this doesnt seem to be the case.'

On my WindowsXP I installed al lthe necessary drivers, restarted my computer, plugged in the USB and when I have all the connection setup between my USB and router it says "Connected, Signal: Very Good, Speed: 54.Mbps" therefore I assume it is all good to go.

But when I access Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox, the speed is horrible, it is almost like a Dial-up (no jokes)! The distance between the USB and the Wireless Router is only like across a small hallway fro my room!

Please help me, is that suppose to be the speed of 54Mbps or is it just that my wireless router and USB suck!

Go to your command prompt and type in: ping yahoo.com and ping google.com. What is the time? Its in ms.

You are not going to get 54mbs internet surfing because you are limited to the bandwidth that is provided by your ISP.

Do a search for bandwidth testers and test it to see what you are getting.

Remember, your computer configuration (ram, cpu, os, etc) will also play a factor.
