Dad's laptop is slowin down...

As the title says, my dads laptop is really slowin down. It takes for ever to load any pictures (something my dad really needs, he uses ebay alot), and is just plain slow responsive. So my brother and I tried to fix it. First we found around 20 trojans (my dad recentl allowed spyware to install, i mean, like there was the "anti spyware" which we never had on our computer, and following that, the trojans). We nuked the trojans, but it is still way too sluggish.

Now dont laugh, but here are the specs:

Pentium 4 1.8GHz

60gb? HDD

512MB ram

DVD drive

XP pro

I know, this computer is ancient, but my dad bought it anyway, he just uses it for internet anyways. So any thoughts on what the computer is slowing down for?
 
I doubt the Trojans are gone, unless someone like Buzz or Ceewi1 was helping you in the security section.

Try posting there following the advice of the sticky. :)
 
its pretty difficult to get rid of all your computer viruses and trojans e.t.c unless you reformat your computer. it is possible mind, with the right help and advice. i am not one to give it to you. as respital said look to the more experienced of this forum.
 
OK, well, something must have attached itself to IE7. My dad finally let us install firefox (yay!!!!), it is MUCH faster than IE EVER was. So the problem seems to be fixed, except for the fact that IE does not work properly. Any thoughts on the solution? Also, I didn't have any one help me with the trojans, I used SuperAnti-Spyware, and scanned it again with a few other programs, nothing found.
