Hey,
I bought a laptop over 1 year ago and it came with 64-bit Windows 7 Home. Now when the warranty has expired the OS started giving me errors, I think the hard drive might be broken or there are some viruses in the system, anyway I have to format my drive.. My question is: can I somehow reinstall my Windows if I was not given any CD but there is a product key underneath the laptop or do I have purchase new original CD for over $100?

What issues are you having with the drive? If you are infected, we can get you cleaned up.

Thanks all! It is being downloaded now from that website, I clicked for SP1 intergated link, hope this will work too.

I am almost 100% sure I am infected but I think the hard drive might have bad sectors too. The system barely boots up and barely breaths, I guess nobody would fix it without reformatting it.. The problems started when the antivirus expired as far as I recall...

Your laptop probably has a recovery partition. Back up your old files and settings and then restore your partition to original manufacturer's settings, then restore your files and settings

Tried it... And didn't help.

I would recommend the re format. It will give a fresh restart. Once you have done the restart though please install some protection.

http://www.microsoft.com/security/pc-security/mse.aspx

This will protect against viruses, spyware and most Mal-ware from what Microsoft claims.

Without good protection you just run the risk for getting something.

Thank you, that was supposed to be my next question (protection). I didn't know Microsoft has free Anti-everything protection to be downloaded.. Why to pay for commercial ones then?
