damned machine wont boot

O....k ? So would you like help with it? Or are you just making a statement? If you're expecting help you're going to have to provide more information than that lol.
 
yeah, a hammer would be nice.
okay, so here's the story: my case was a bit small and a bit hot, so i got a new case. i think that, somewhere within the transfer, the mobo got messed up, because i know the video card works, and i know the PSU is fine. ive tried using the bare minimum devices, and still nothing. it will turn on, but the monitor wont get signal from the video card. any suggestions?
 
i had that with my slot 1. the first prob was that the mem was bad, the second thing was that the CPU wasnt tight enough in its socket
 
its not the memory, and its not the processor. here's something for you though: my chassis fan has a light in it, and it only comes on for a second when i turn it on...and the fan turns on for a split second too. the same happens when i turn it off. ive tried changing the fans and everything, but still nothing. ponder that, if you please =P
 
sounds odd, im no guru but PSU or mobo dead? maybe?...mehh i would have already grabbed the hammer :o ..j/k theres always hope, i had a system down for a couple months stuck in MS-Dos mode untill it finally decided to let me restore it hehe....:mad:
 
no...i dont think you quite get it. it will turn on, but no video signal. i dunno if the PSU is dead, but ill try another, but only because it sort of smells like something is burning when i turn it on.....XD
 
..just checked, its not the PSU. my motherboard must be shot....cant blame it, the thing must be 5 or 6 years old...check my sig for specs.
 
i had that problem with a AMD sempron, it would start up for a second then die. if i left it for a few minutes it would boot, then die. i was frustrated and bougt another PSU. worked fine for a few days, then same prob. both PSUs were good. found out : the mobo was touching the case, nd it was grounding it, solved : take mobo out and set it on the floor, and connect everything to it, try it, if it works then ya got a bad case, (if ya want that case put some paper or something in the back to un-ground it.

That's what I was going to suggest... make sure you're mobo isn't shorting out anywhere.
 
First a couple of basic checks. Please forgive if these had already been posted, I'm simply trying to aid you.

1st, if you're using more then one stick of RAM, only use one to boot, sometimes bad RAM modules will stop your pc from posting.
2st, if you have onboard graphics on your mobo, try using that, you graphics card may be dead.
3rd, check to see if you're monitor is still working, and make sure that the connector is ok. ( I had this problem).
4th, Swap out another PSU. This is often the problem, A dead PSU.
5th, make sure all your power led, hdd led, power switch etc etc cables are hooked up to the right spot on your motherboard.
6th, make sure you're heatsink and fan are connected properly, and are seated properly. This can cause overheating.
7th, also try another graphics card/ or another graphics card slot. Sometimes the slot or card might just be dead.

If after all that, it's more than likely your motherboard, so I'd get it replaced.
Also try making sure your case isn't grounding out your motherboard.

Rofl, I know its stupid, but I did this awhile, have you checked your monitors pin up? I mean check plug for your monitor and see if there all there and pointing strait.
