Damp air hurts computers?

As some of you have seen in the General Computer section, I have rigged a duct system to bring in cooler air from the outside to cool my computer. My dad was worried about the moisture in the air frying my computer. I have a 10" box fan bringing in the cold, moist outside air and it is basically blowing fairly hard into the case. What do you think?

It should be fine. The amount of moisture the percipitates on your components is almost none. It is perfectly fine.

condensation really sin't a problem unless you're porting an air conditioning unit into your case. i knew a guy who did that and he would have to check the weather and the dew point in the morning to be safe. a couple times he had to shut it off because it was extremely humid outside and water started accumulating.

but for a box fan...you're gonna be alright unless it starts raining or something lol and you pull in the water from outside.

It won't be able to suck in rain because of the way the window is set up, but I can shut it off when it rains. Since 7:00 this morning it has stayed around 78-80% humidity, but at least my processor runs 15C-17C cooler.

Sounds like the setup I used to have, but the way I had it I could have it bring in cold air without worrying about percipitation or bugs getting inside.

The only thing I would be concerned about would be corrosion that could develop if moisture is always present. Its not likely to occur though as long as you operate your computer regularly. Also all the connections used in computers are not prone to corrosion because most are gold plated.

15-17c cooler

wow thats a lot ! :)

whats the temp now then?!

It was 47C average for the processor from 63C
27C from 45C for the memory
18C from 38C for the northbridge

I put it back together for the day because it doesn't help much when it is warm outside.

Night humidity = 80%
Day humidity = 55%
So I don't think it will hurt it, because it isn't always humid. I have my computer on 24/7 now.

Ya, the rain won't come in, and there is a screen over the window, but some really small bugs forced themselves through, I guess because it was bright inside and dark outside.

You can get a window A/C at walmart for like 89 bucks- Ha Ha. Cool the whole damn room down!

1. More electricity. My "room" is actually the basement, the main part is est. 30ft by 20ft.
2. Cooling the whole room to 61F won't be comfortable for me :). Now it cools the room slightly, probably to around 70F, but the computer gets 60F air.

as long as it is monitored and you don't get any calcium, lime, or rust build ups you should be fine. Also, lower humidity increases ESD, just another thing to consider.
