Data corruptions and such..

Ok, i have the following problem.
I have this pc:
AMD 'Venice' 3000+ @ 2.7GHz ( 300MHz fsb, 1200MHz HTratio )
Albatron K8SLI
2Gb Ram (8-4-4-2.5 @ 200MHz )
6800GT ( 430/1150)
and 250Gb / 160Gb 7200rpm PATA HD

now, the following problem occurs.
everytime i download a large setup, windows says its corrupt when i run it.
everytime i instal a game, the setup has errors about a damage dist or data corruption. when i download a large patch, its corrupt, and i cant run it.

i used this pc for some time now, and never had this kind of problems.
it started when i only had the 160Gb disk in my PC. i popped out the 160Gb, and putted a 250Gb disk into it. same problem occured.
i ran tests on both HD's (Hardware scans like surface and such), both disks passed. so, the problem has to be in the rest of the pc.
i havent bought a SATA disk yet,.. but before i do that, i actually want to know the odd's the same problem would occur again.

hope someone can help me on this one.

as said, i changed the HD, and reinstalled windows several times.
tried Win Xp pro and Win xp x64 pro. both had the same problem

that cant be te problem if you think about it. since windows is reinstalled several times.

anyhow, i found the problem. 2 of my 4 512Mb RAM sticks tend to be corrupt.
i ran the program Memtest86 ( http://www.memtest86.com/ )
and with only the 2 RAM sticks in the pc that didnt give an error, the pc works fine.

thx for trying to help tough. ;)

1. Glad you found the problem
2. I had a similar problem, and updating the chipset drivers solved it for me. I just wondered if yours was similar. I was wrong. :D Oh, well.

Hey, I was just browsing this forum looking for a thread about corrupt files because the exact same thing seems to be happening to my computer. I just put this computer together, I have:

Asus A8N-E
AMD 64 3700+
EVGA 6800 GS
1GB Kingston HyperX Ram
WD 250GB SATA2 16mb cache

And I just started having this problem. I was running the system on my old hard drives (2 maxtor DiamondMax Plus 8 - 40gb ATA133) with only one stick of the 512MB HyperX Ram last week, and I didn't have this problem. Its only started since I've installed the new hard drive, installed XPpro on it, and installed the new stick of RAM. I just ran that program you mentioned earlier in the thread, and it passed all the tests, with no errors. I'm thinking its not the hard drive because none of the files that I moved from my old hard drives seem to be corrupt.

Again, this usually only happens when I try downloading large files, which are zipped. When I try to unzip them, it gives me a CRC error. This happens when I try to download the update to my chipset and my BIOs, so I really can't upgrade them w/o asking ASUS to put it on a CD and send it to me or something.

Thanks for your help.

anyone? please help.. this is getting really annoying.

I've underclocked my processor and RAM.. it didn't work...

Also just replaced my new HD with my old HDs, and the files are still corrupt. I'm outta ideas...
