Data recovery software

Hello,

Not being the only one using your PC is a curse! Two days ago my roomate downloaded an mp3 file and upon opening it revealed itself as a virus. The PC shut down and wouldn't boot again. The trick with the original Windows CD didn't worked and I got myself a new hard disk (the old was almost full anyway) and I installed Windows XP pro and so on... After I was successfully booting Windows on the new hard disk I decided to make the transfer from the old one to the new, but I noticed that my Desktop folder in Documents and setting (old HD) was empty! Having many importand files on desktop I hit the roof and now I am completely lost. Is all the data really gone or can it be somewhere safe? Is it possible to get a recovery software to get the data back? I would be very grateful for any help I can get...

Many thanks...

ERD commander

Hello
I've had some success with ERD commander. I think the '07 version was much better than the '05.
Good luck
Steve

First of all I am very sorry for replying so late but it it may be an early comment to someone else. So, dear Lono there is nothing to worry about it may happen that all you files are present there in a hidden form. So, don't panic. As you already have a new hard disk , first take a backup of all your data on external hard drive an install a data recovery software on your primary disk. As per my experience I would suggest the Stellar phoenix Windows Data Recovery Software for it. You can try it from http://windows-data-recovery.net/
