Data Recovery

I had a hard disk that failed...and since my old computer was much too old, that became the perfect excuse for getting myself a new computer.

However, after the initial obsession with my new computer died down, I decided to get my old data back--only to remember that my old hard disk failed. So I went online for free data recovery solutions, but Restorer 2000 Demo and Active@ File Recovery Demo are the only ones that got past the numerous cyclic redundancy errors on the disk and are the only ones to find the files that I needed to recover. Since these are demo programs, they have very, very limited recovery functions. No other freeware or shareware out there that I tried can get past those errors.

So, I'm in pain looking at my old hard disk, knowing that the files are there yet unable to retrieve them without paying a lot of money. I need suggestions!

Thank you very much for your time! :D

How expensive is the harddrive you are trying to recover data from? (i.e., plate swapping)

Plate Swapping = buy the exact same harddrive, open them both and swap the bad plate into the good drive :)

Gosh...I'm not even sure if it's due to physical damage to the hard drive or to the drive data corruption...
Also, I forgot to state that it's only one particular partition that's bad; the other two partitions on that old disk works fine. Thanks so much for your posts!

hmm...any suggestions on which application? I tried many, but most can't get around those errors and usually ends up shutting down the drive altogether. The aforementioned two apps are demos...sigh...:(

Thanks
