Data won't backup on WD Passport

I use W8.1. When I make changes to files on my Lenovo H500S pc they are not saved on my WD Passport Ultra. I have data backup set to continuous. Thanks.

Under the "Details" tab in Task Manager "WDBackupEngine.exe" and "WDSmartWare.exe" are listed as running as are three other WD apps. Under the "Process" tab these WD apps are listed as 32-bit as are all other apps listed, but my O/S is 64-bit.

32-bit applications can still run in 64-bit.

Is there a system tray utility that's always running?

There is always a WDSmartware icon in the system tray, and in WD Quick View under "Locked" is says "No" and under "Temperature" it says "OK".

I transferred these files from my old computer to the Lenovo that I am now using. The files are in Word 2000 format, and I am using Apache Open Office on my new computer. Whether I save a change I make in a file in the old format or Open Office format it is not saved to my external hd. I was using this external hd on my old computer on which I was using Office 2000 and it saved all the changes I made.

Under the "Home" tab in WD Smartware "Documents", "Music", "Movies", "Pictures", and "Other" are all listed for my PC and my external drive and all are the same size. How can I see a listing of the individual files that I have chosen to backup?

I just set up a Google Drive cloud backup account, and my data won't backup in Google Drive either. Someone on another forum said that maybe my firewall or antivirus is preventing my data from being backed up on Google Drive. Could my firewall or antivirus be preventing my data from being backed up onto my Passport also? I use AVG and the Windows Firewall.

Google Drive doesn't automatically back up your data, you have to copy files to the Google Drive folder either manually or with other software to have it sync with Google.

So now if you go to Drive.Google.Com you should see those files you put in there on your Google Drive.

The files I uploaded to Google Drive are in My Google Drive, but when I make a change to one of those files on my computer the change is not saved in the My Google Drive file.

Someone on the Google Drive help forum suggested that my firewall or AV may be blocking saving the changes and that I should make some changes to my Internet Options in Internet Explorer which I tried to do but am not sure that I made all the changes correctly. Why would I make changes in IE if I use Firefox?

Unless you're making the change directly to the file saved in the Google Drive folder, it's not going to magically copy itself to your Google Drive folder and update itself

Ok, makes sense. I thought that maybe when I connected to the internet that somehow Google Drive would read the changes to my files on my computer.

As Voyager said, you need to make the changes to the files in the Google Drive folder. If you change them in the original location, it won't sync the changes.

I accidentally created another user when I set up my new computer, so my data was being backed up to a user file that I was not checking. I contacted WD customer support and a tech called me and accessed my computer online and found the problem. He worked on the problem for about 1/2 hour. Excellent customer support.
