DDR 266 vs DDR 400

hi guys, you know ddr 400 is nearly twice as fast as ddr 266, does that mean if i get a 1gig 400 ram it will be the same as the 2gig 266 ram am i wrong please help

I dunnp if it willbe the same, but either should be more than adequate for most things. If you need a lot of RAM, I would go with 1gb DDR400

It certainly wouldnt be BETTER (overall), i was just having a play of words on "more ram" (and noting that you picked 1Gb to be more than 2GB :P). Overall you'll definitely benifit from 1GB DDR400 rather than 2GB DDR266

yeah i mite aswell stick with my old memory still compatible with new mobo i know not the fastest but still...

Good luck getting those to work well on the A64 board .. he might get it to work. Its worth a shot so do that first if you want to save money but dont count on it working

I was saying that 2GB of any RAM would be better than 1GB of any RAM, just not necessarily needed

Natrurally 1GB DDR400 is better but i was just noting the quantity perspective :P

Quite true. He noted that he was gonna get that system back in september so........
1. He's got the system and i dunno why he's asking about 1GB vs 2GB
2. He's got the system but only with 1GB ... but the system is still smokin' nice so i dunno why there would be a need to upgrade
3. He's not got the system yet but still wants to .. but the question about the DDR266 and DDR400 has already been addressed elsewhere

i havnt got the new system i was talking about im a student no money just enough money to pay for my car, petrol insurance road tax all that etc...
so 1gig of 400 will not be the same as 2gig of 266 considering 400mhz is twice as fast as 266mhz.
ive got an old pc
2000xp
1gig 266mhz(may get 2gig or 3)
40gb hdd
60gb hdd
64 mb graphics card

2. For the record "of course it wont be the same"
3. As for whether you get the 1GB or 2GB it depends on what you're doing with the system

also dont the requirements for the windows 64 o/s require you to have minimum of 1gig of ram

What mobo?

Make sure it can take 2GB or 3GB before you put it in, a lot of older ones (and some newer) won't go past 2GB

The 3GB limit was with AthlonXPs. He's considering a A64 system so it wont matter :)
 
No a 1 GB of 400 will not be the same as 2 GB 266. It at least won't have the same space. The speeds of the two will be equivlant though.

ddr400 has equivalent speed to ddr266....no. there is no way
