DDR or DDR2

THis relates back to my other post. http://www.computerforum.com/showthread.php?t=24436

An AMD system only supports DDR while INTEL supports DDR2.
I can get DDR RAM w/ timings of 2-3-2-5 (lowest available)
or
I can get DDR2 RAM w/ timings of 4-4-4-8 (lowest available)

The prices are comparable but the timing is a little bit better on DDR.

My question is... Is the future of RAM in DDR2 (since it is newer tech) or would i benifit more from the 3ns lower timing of DDR? I would rather have a product that wont be phased out in 2 yrs (maybe DDR) instead of the speed boost. But if DDR is here to stay why not.
I might upgrade in 4 yrs. Had my comp now for 3.

well it depends on what you do with your computer...if it's gaming then you're probably better with an AMD system and ddr ram with timing of 2-3-2-5. If you're doing video editing and stuff then you should go with intel. however right now i don't think there' that big of a different in DDR2 ram unless you get the really expensive stuff.

Also take a look at ram101

DDR is best for gaming, especially with its low timings, DDR2 is good for non-gaming needs, such as video/audio rendereing, and apps that require alot on ram speed.

indeed. everest says my pc beats everything in he list on all the memory benchmarks
( DDR400 @ 450MHz ) im pretty shure its nor THAT accurate, bu at least it shows its not much slower :)
