im about to buy a motherboard that has DDR2 ram in it and would prefer a board with DDR3 so heres a stupid question is there DDR3 ram that i can put in its place?

no. they are not interchangable. You can only run DDR3 memory in a DDR3 motherboard. There are some out there that support both, but only one at a time.

Very rarely there will be a mobo that supports both, just search the motherboard model.I would say get a newer mobo with DDR3, you will be spending less in the longrun. My old mobo I got 2 months ago for my first build used DDR2, the ram cost double.BTW, you know there are tons of people who have asked this question, google anybody?

Right anwer, different question.

The answer is no. DDR3 and DDR2 not interchangable. They're physically and electrically different.
