DDR2 and DDR400

This may sound like a n00b question, but im about to make a good new computer over a long time (coz im working and all, making small amounts of money whilst i attend school) and i don't really want to have to upgrade my RAM in one go, i want to get a new mobo and CPU (im upgrading from a P4 to an athlon not sure which one yet, all depends on pricing etc.) but i don't want to have to buy new RAM to use them just yet, i currently have 512 of DDR2 and i seem to only be able to find mobo's that use DDR400

is there any difference in them? if so, which is better?

what i really want to do is buy the mobo and CPU and use my current RAM GPU PSU etc on it, then upgrade them later, although i don't want to get a mobo that uses DDR2 if DDR400 is better

see what im getting at?

anywho, any help would be much needed

thx for ur time

Basil

yeah... *shifty eyes* i knew that... *runs off*

well thats awesome, its all settled

i need 2Gb of corsair RAM (2 x 1GB sticks) and i want a athlon 3800 or higher... and i also want a Radeon X1900... *trails off in a state of mind were no one can talk to me were i state everything i want for a computer of ultimate doom*

Because DDR400 is the same as DDR3200 :P
haahaa, not sticking ur tounge out anymore eh? ...jk

if you were gona wait till the AM2 socket mobos came our and upgraded then, hen u would be able to keep your ram... the Am2 release is scheduled 6/6/06...

lol
yea most ddr2 doesnt perform as well as most ddr400 modules (as long as theyre in dual channel)
normally ddr2 533 performs worse, and ddr2 667 performs about as good, maybe a little better.
NOTE: only when the ddr400 is in DUAL CHANNEL this requires two sticks and a 939 socket cpu.
