DDR3 2GB vs 3GB vs 6GB

I was reading in the magazine today and they were testing out just how much of a difference each amount made. and 6GB had the most tops but in playing Quake 4 6GB had the least amount of fps, and the 2GB had the most. If i remember right the 6GB had 121 and the 3GB had 134 and the 2GB had 135. It doesnt make sense to me >< explain please

with higher speeds/sizes you'll get higher latency.
sometimes games will use the tighter timings (lower latency) of ram more so than the speed or amount.

like. my DDR2 will run 4-4-4-11-12 at 400mhz, but at 533mhz (ddr2-1066) it's at like 5-5-5-15-20.

Latency is directly related to speed, but if its very high latencies and low speed ddr3 that can really contribute to it. Eg- 2000mhz with cas 8 would still be faster than 1333mhz with cas 5 or 6, since cas latencies refer to the number of clock cycles, more mhz=more cycles/second=less total delay. Im sure you already knew that, this is mainly towards the OP.

I subscribe to all the main magazines out there for computers...which magazine was this in?
 
I find it hard to believe that more system resources = poorer performance.

I could believe 2GB vs 6GB was no difference but id also like to see that magazine article ^-^
 
It was in Maximumpc. idk if they all are but this one was a "how to" edition. the most recent they have. im still kind of confused on it >< lol
