Dead Dell optiplex gx110 again

I have a Dell optiplex gx110, I know its old but it's not my main computer and I don't really need it, I just want it to play with linux. I got it working great (xp pro, 512mb ram, new graphics card) the only other thing I wanted to do was upgrade the processor, so I did, another pentium III, but instead of 800mhz, I got a 1.4ghz. I put it in and turned it on, and instead of the green power light, it was solid orange. so I turned it off and put the old one back in and it gets half way through the post and stops. I tried everything, eventually bought a new motherboard, not realizing the processor was what caused the last problem, I started it up with the old processor and it worked fine, put the new one in and the same thing happened. so now I have two broken motherboards, and no idea how to fix them. I did look closer at the processors and the original 800mhz was 1.7v and the new 1.4ghz was only 1.45v, is this what was wrong, I looked at everything very closely and there is nothing scorched or anything.
Please help me.

The max cpu that can be used in the Dell optiplex gx110 that has a 100mhz bus is a
1GHZ cpu, but that doesnt explain what happened to your board, but if i was you, you should read the manual for your board as to what cpu and parts can be usedwith your board before sticking things in it.

maybe someone else will know what to try to get the board working again.
